Deerness Take Team Acrobatic Title

Twenty-two acrobatic gymnasts, in nine combinations, from Deerness Gymnastics Academy, each won a medal after teaming up to participate in the North of England regional open & team competition which took place on Sunday 25 June at South Tyneside Gymnastics Centre.

Deerness Gymnastics Academy also took the Team title after securing GOLD in 8 categories and Silver in another. The Durham club was one of many clubs across the region taking part in the competition which had over 100 participants ranging from development gymnasts to elite competitor.

Gold Medals:

  • NDP 1 Women’s Pair – Amber Askew & Poppy Wilthew
  • NDP 2 Women’s Pair – Lucy Wealleans & Mia Nigrelli
  • NDP 3 Women’s Group – Ebony Young, Amelia Harrison & Ella Rodgerson
  • IDP Women’s Pair – Chelsea Nesbitt & Eilidh MacDougal
  • IDP Women’s Group – Kaira Farrier, Ariana Dubov & Frankie Ryman
  • 11-16 Women’s Pair – Cara Winship & Georgia Hewison
  • 12-18 Women’s Pair – Katerina Dubov & Tatiana Dubov
  • 13-19 Women’s Group – Amelia Pamler, Caitlin Owston & Bethany MacDougal

Silver Medal:

NDP 4 Women’s Group – Grace Robson, Emily Wilson & Katie Dunn

“This was a great opportunity for some of our developing gymnasts to compete against the best in the region and Great Britain,” said Katie Lawton, high-performance coach, Deerness Gymnastics Academy. “It was also a timely opportunity for essential competition experience ahead of the British Championships at the end of July”

“It is really important for gymnasts at all levels of development to keep gaining more experience in a competitive environment. These tournaments are a great way of developing gymnastic skills and strengths and will hopefully inspire and encourage more people to get involved with the club.”

Deerness Gymnastics Academy in Ushaw Moor is a high-performance centre for British Gymnastics. The club which also has its former gymnast Matt Baker as its patron and has become one of Britain’s top gymnastics clubs over the past thirty years, with over 100 international gymnasts with more than eighty World and European medallists, including fifteen World and European Champions in its roll of honour. It is not only one of the most successful clubs in Great Britain but it is also recognised on the International scene as one of the top clubs in the world.
