Durham Acro Gymnasts Flying High to the World Championships

Deerness Gymnastics Academy are celebrating once again after all eleven of their acro-gymnasts have been picked to represent their country in the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships taking place in Florida next month (12th – 19th April 2012).
The Senior Men’s Group, who are the reigning European Champions, will compete in the 23rd Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships, and seven other gymnasts will compete in the Mens’ Pairs, Mixed Pairs and Women’s Group at the 7th World Age Group Competition, both taking place in Florida in April.
The World Championships Teams were chosen by British Gymnastics after selection events held at Loughborough University and Lilleshall National Sports Centre earlier this month.

Men’s Group Jesse Heskett (17) from Seaburn, Sunderland Matthew Evison (19) from Esh Winning and attends St. Leonards RC School. Dorian Walker (21) from Durham City and studying at Newcastle Uni Richard Hurst (21) from Esh Winning
Men’s Pair Tim Pritchard (15) from Belmont and attends Belmont School Alex Houston (18) Consett and studying at Newcastle College
Mixed Pair Rhys Maxwell (17) from Belmont and attends Durham 6th Form Centre Erin Walker (14) from Chester-le-Street and attends Hermitage School
Women’s Group Emily Forsyth (17) from Durham City at attends Durham Johnston School Carys Ridsdale (17) from Durham City at attends Durham Johnston School Millie Nesbitt  (12) from Durham City and attends St. Leonards RC School.

Stuart Thompson, from Durham, who is head of acrobatic gymnastics at Deerness Gymnastics Academy, is also selected as a coach for the Team GB Junior squad.
